Vintage door headboard

My dad and I made this king size headboard using an old 5 panel door some decorative trim and a few 2×4’s.

I first prepped the old door by removing some of the old paint. Underneath the layers I discovered many colors from years of painting. I decided to leave some of the old paint to give it a distressed look. After cleaning the surface and removing some of the old layers I let it dry for a day. I then added some polyurethane to help make the surface smooth and keep any possible chipped paint from coming off on my linens. I then added the support pieces to the sides of the door. These help keep the headboard stable. I then added a piece of 2×6 that I had left over from another project to the base of the headboard to further stabilize and give something for the bed rails to attach to later. Next I added the piece of 1×4 to the top of the door creating a shelf look. I then added a couple of pieces of crown under the 1×4 to creat the molding look that I wanted. After I was satisfied with the look of my new headboard i gave the trim a light sand and then stained and lacquered the whole piece! I think it turned out beautifully!
Thanks for checking it out!
